Mental Health Crisis Support Services
in Greater Boston

Massachusetts’ statewide Emergency Services Program (ESP) provides 24/7 mental health crisis support, 365 days a year. BEST, Riverside, and Aspire (listed below) serve specific areas in Greater Boston. Each crisis team consists of mental health professionals who can evaluate you via phone or meet you where you are to help you determine the best plan to move forward. ESP services are provided at no cost to those with MassHealth (Medicaid), Medicare, without health insurance, and some types of commercial insurance.

ADVOCATES

Advocates Psychiatric Emergency Service team provides 24-hour mobile crisis intervention along with connections to resources and services. Advocates also provides a variety of services to people with disablities, elders, and those with other challenges to overcome personal obstacles and societal barriers. Services include mental health recovery, addiction recovery, counseling and psychiatry, outreach servcies, peer support, elder services, autism services, and more.

ASPIRE HEALTH ALLIANCE: EMERGENCY SERVICE PROGRAM

Available 24/7, Aspire ESP's master’s level clinicians provide psychiatric evaluation and treatment to support and stabilize clients while transitioning them to the appropriate level of care within the community. Aspire Health Alliance’s Emergency Services Program also includes an open, six-bed stabilization unit that offers an alternative to hospitalization for clients in need of short-term crisis intervention. Aspire is the ESP that serves the South Shore area, on the coast south of Boston city.

BOSTON EMERGENCY SERVICES TEAM (BEST)

The Boston Emergency Services Team (BEST) provides emergency psychiatric services including crisis support and information and referral. Services include psychiatric emergency rooms and mental health hotlines. BEST is the Emergency Services Program that serves the Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, and Brookline areas.

ELIOT COMMUNITY HUMAN SERVICES

Eliot Community Human Services in conjunction with the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership, provides 24/7 behavioral health crisis assessment, intervention, and stabilization services as part of the Massachusetts Emergency Service Program.

LOWELL EMERGENCY SERVICES PROGRAM

The Emergency Services Program (ESP) provides behavioral health crisis assessment, intervention and stabilization services. The Lowell area location is open 24/7.

RIVERSIDE EMERGENCY SERVICES

Riverside Community Care provides behavioral health crisis assessment, intervention and stabilization services, including mobile crisis services for children and adolescents, mobile crisis services for adults and geriatric population, services at ESP community-based locations, and community crisis stabilization services for people age 18 and over. Riverside Community Care is the Emergency Services Program for the Norwood area, southwest of Boston city.
